BeyondAutism learners are going places…

8th July 2021

Thanks to a generous donation made by The Story of Christmas, and the long awaited lifting of Covid restrictions, this additional minibus will help transport our students to places they’ve been keen to experience for so very long.

Being able to access the community is a fundamental part of our learners’ education. Teaching in the community consolidates skills learnt in the classroom, developing confidence and independence. The cost of transport, coupled with Covid restrictions have made these opportunities scarcer over the past year.

Following a successful application, we are delighted to have received a fully accessible minibus from The Story of Christmas. The minibus will give our learners access to a broader variety of activities and save the charity vital funds after a challenging year.

It will enable us to take learners to local shops and work experience placements; to access more sporting activities such as swimming and the gym; and to go on more class trips, taking our learning outside the classroom. All of these activities will help to develop independence skills, build community connections and inspire affinity with the outdoors.

The pandemic caused an initial delay to the delivery of the minibus. However, with restrictions easing we can’t wait to start getting out into the community.

“We are so grateful for the donation of the minibus. Lockdown and the consequential restrictions have had a huge impact on our pupils’ extended learning and enrichment opportunities. As we move forward from the pandemic it is vital that our learners re-engage with our community, this minibus will enable us to extend our offer and increase the options we have available to our pupils.” Kieran Bird, Executive Head of BeyondAutism Schools.
